EA's Skate to Feature Microtransactions Pre-Launch

Author:Kristen Update:May 02,2025

EA has introduced microtransactions to Skate during its latest alpha test, ahead of an upcoming release date announcement. According to Insider Gaming, developer Full Circle has integrated these microtransactions into the closed alpha test of EA's free-to-play Skate revival. Players can now use real-world money to purchase a virtual currency known as San Van Bucks, which can then be spent on various cosmetic items. Full Circle aims to refine Skate's microtransaction system, ensuring players have a "positive experience when purchasing items from the Skate store." The developer values player feedback, stating, "Your feedback will be greatly appreciated in providing a great experience at Early Access launch."

Insider Gaming also reports that Full Circle has informed testers that all progress will be reset before Skate enters early access. However, any purchases made will be converted back into San Van Bucks, which will be available again at the start of early access.

Skate's early access launch is scheduled for 2025. The project was initially unveiled during EA Play back in 2020, when it was described as being in the "very early" stages of development. Since then, Full Circle has maintained regular communication with the community through closed playtests of early builds and updates via their "The Board Room" video series. In 2022, the developer officially named the game 'skate.' and confirmed its release as a free-to-play title on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
