"Dragon Age: The Veilguard Director Leaves BioWare"

Author:Kristen Update:May 14,2025

Corinne Busche, the game director behind Dragon Age: The Veilguard, is set to depart from BioWare in the coming weeks, according to Eurogamer. Busche joined the EA-owned studio in 2019 after working at Maxis on The Sims projects and took on the role of director for Dragon Age: The Veilguard from February 2022 until its launch last year. Despite her departure, Eurogamer states that BioWare remains unaffected by other changes. IGN has reached out to EA for comment on this matter.

The release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in October last year sparked discussions about its success. The game's development spanned nearly a decade, undergoing a significant reset that transformed it from a multiplayer concept into a full-fledged single-player RPG. Busche played a crucial role in steering the project to completion in its final years. Her exit from BioWare, as reported by Eurogamer, is not linked to the game's commercial performance. EA is yet to disclose whether the game met its sales and revenue targets, with the company set to announce its Q3 2025 financial results on February 4.

Moving forward, BioWare has confirmed it will not pursue any DLC for Dragon Age: The Veilguard and is instead shifting its focus to Mass Effect 5. The studio has provided teasers for this upcoming project over the years, though a full reveal is still pending.

In August 2023, BioWare laid off approximately 50 employees, including long-time staff such as narrative designer Mary Kirby, amidst broader changes at EA. This included a restructuring that split the company into sports and non-sports divisions. Rumors of BioWare's potential acquisition circulated that summer, alongside the decision to allow Star Wars: The Old Republic to transition to a third-party developer, enabling BioWare to concentrate on Mass Effect and Dragon Age.

The journey of Dragon Age: The Veilguard continued into 2024 with its reveal, which initially received negative feedback. The studio responded quickly by releasing an early gameplay teaser to address fan concerns. The title change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard also faced criticism, but subsequent impressions of the game were generally positive.

As BioWare navigates these changes, fans of the Dragon Age series are left pondering whether the studio will have the opportunity to develop another sequel following The Veilguard.
