Dr Disrespect's Midnight Society Shuts Down, Cancels Game

Author:Kristen Update:May 13,2025

Midnight Society, the game development studio co-founded by popular streamer Guy 'Dr. Disrespect' Beahm, has announced its closure after three years of operation. The studio, which also included veterans from renowned titles like Call of Duty and Halo, such as Robert Bowling and Quinn Delhyo, made the announcement via a post on X. They stated, "Today we are announcing Midnight Society will be closing its doors after three incredible years, with an amazing team of over 55 developers." Additionally, they reached out to the gaming community, asking if any studios are currently hiring and could provide employment opportunities to their team members.

The studio's flagship project, Deadrop, was intended to be a free-to-play first-person shooter (FPS) that would leverage the team's extensive experience in the genre. Initially targeting a 2024 release, the game unfortunately missed its deadline. Deadrop was envisioned in a unique fictional universe where "the 80s never ended," featuring characters with Daft Punk-inspired helmets and a mix of guns and swords. The gameplay was designed to be a PvPvE style extraction shooter, promising an engaging experience for players.

Midnight Society's journey took a significant turn in 2024 when they parted ways with Beahm following his admission of exchanging messages with a minor through Twitch's Whispers feature, which he acknowledged as sometimes being inappropriate. Despite this split, the studio continued to work on Deadrop until its closure this year.

The closure of Midnight Society adds to the growing list of studios facing similar fates in the challenging landscape of the gaming industry. Companies like Ubisoft, BioWare, Phoenix Labs, and many others have also experienced closures or layoffs, highlighting the difficulties currently faced by the sector.
