Defeat Zhang Jiao in Dynasty Warriors: Origins: Strategy Guide

In *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, one of the first formidable challenges you'll encounter is the battle against Zhang Jiao, the leader of the Yellow Turbans. Here's a detailed guide on how to defeat him effectively.

How To Fight Zhang Jiao's First Phase

The initial encounter with Zhang Jiao takes place in a vast wasteland, where you'll face him in a one-on-one duel. Zhang Jiao utilizes sorcery to hurl stones at you across the arena. When you're close to him, he'll summon four stones, necessitating quick evasion to avoid damage. If you maintain a distance, he'll summon twice as many stones, launching them in pairs. To dodge these, simply run around him. It's crucial to create distance when he summons a large number of stones to prevent taking significant damage from the barrage.

Although Zhang Jiao's primary strategy is to keep you at bay, he also has some close-range attacks. These include basic combos that you can parry and an Area of Effect (AOE) attack meant to push you back. Watch for a white glow around him, signaling the charging of his AOE attack. It's vital to retreat when you see this to avoid damage.

As the fight progresses, Zhang Jiao will employ moves marked by a red aura, indicating that these attacks cannot be canceled. He'll summon massive amounts of rocks and create several clones. The best approach here is to back away and wait for the attack to end before resuming your offensive. Ensure you're wielding a sword, as it allows for better damage output compared to spears or gauntlets.

Monitoring your health is essential. You'll likely be able to heal only about four times, depending on your upgraded skills. Remember, there are jars near the arena's entrance containing meat buns, which you can use to heal. When retreating from Zhang Jiao's attacks, grab some buns to replenish your health.

How To Fight Zhang Jiao's Second Phase

Upon unlocking Musou Rage, you'll transition into the second phase, where Zhang Jiao is supported by the Yellow Turbans. Fortunately, your army will also join the fray, giving you some respite. This is an ideal moment to heal by dashing to the entrance and grabbing those meat buns. Be cautious of the tornados Zhang Jiao summons, as they can disrupt your position while you're battling his soldiers.

After defeating a significant number of his soldiers, Zhang Jiao will initiate a Grand Tactic, requiring you to eliminate 300 soldiers within a tight timeframe to prevent a devastating attack. Additionally, he'll start summoning lightning strikes on the arena. Keep an eye on the ground for closing rings that signal an impending strike and evade when they flash. To efficiently defeat the Yellow Turbans, utilize Musou Mode, which can dispatch dozens of enemies at once if timed correctly. While Musou Rage Mode is unlocked, sticking to the basic Musou mode might be more effective given the time constraints.

Once you successfully thwart Zhang Jiao's Grand Tactic twice, he'll return to the battlefield with tactics similar to those in Phase 1. With your army's assistance, it should be relatively straightforward to deplete his remaining health, concluding Chapter 1.

And that's the strategy to defeat Zhang Jiao in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*.
