Effective Items:
Xu Wu is an exceptionally agile boss in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its movements can be frustrating to predict, especially due to its unique shape. Similar to Nu Udra, its black skin makes it difficult to discern its front from its back. Not only must you contend with its multiple arms, but Xu Wu also has the ability to slip into walls and vanish temporarily. It often reappears on the ceiling, attempting to drop onto you. This tactic is only used in its nest, so remain vigilant when battling in that area.
Xu Wu is notably vulnerable to Ice attacks in Monster Hunter Wilds. If you're using ranged weapons, opt for Ice ammo. For melee combatants, equipping gear that inflicts Ice elemental damage is crucial. Enhance your arsenal with a Frost Jewel decoration to boost your Ice Attack skill. Additionally, carrying a Frost Pod can provide a handy way to deal supplementary Ice damage.
In addition to its tentacle strikes and evasive maneuvers, Xu Wu employs a grab attack in Monster Hunter Wilds. If ensnared, you'll be unable to use your standard weapons. You have roughly two seconds to break free, and the most effective method is to use your slinger. Frost Pods are particularly useful in this scenario.
The mouth of Xu Wu is its most vulnerable spot, though it's concealed beneath its body. You'll typically only see it when the monster dives at you. Landing a powerful hit during this brief window can deal substantial damage and might even break its mouth, rewarding you with Xu Wu’s fang. If targeting the mouth isn't feasible, focus on the head, which has a 4-star weakness to both blunt and cut damage, and a 3-star weakness to ammo damage.
Xu Wu exhibits a 3-star weakness to Poison, making it an excellent strategy to inflict this status effect. A bow with Poison Coating can be particularly effective. While other status ailments can also be applied, Sleep is less effective against this monster and should be avoided.

Once you've reduced Xu Wu's health to 20 percent, you can attempt to capture it. Use a Pitfall Trap or a Shock Trap for this purpose. Baiting the trap with meat can be helpful, though you can also use yourself as bait to lure the monster in. After trapping Xu Wu, quickly shoot it with a tranquilizer to prevent escape. You have only a few seconds to act before it breaks free.
That’s everything you need to know about hunting and capturing Xu Wu in Monster Hunter Wilds. This creature's agility requires you to monitor your stamina closely.
