US Blocks Marvel Snap Over TikTok Restrictions

Second Dinner, the California-based studio behind the popular game Marvel Snap, faced an unexpected setback when the game was banned alongside other ByteDance-owned apps like CapCut and Lemon8. This sudden decision led to the discontinuation of Marvel Snap's availability on iOS and Android platforms as of January 18, 2025. The abrupt nature of this ban left many players frustrated, particularly because there was no prior warning. As a result, many continued to spend money on in-game purchases, unaware of the impending lockout.

Despite the ban, PC users can still access Marvel Snap through Steam, providing a glimmer of hope for fans. In response to the situation, Second Dinner's developers expressed their shock and are actively working to restore the game's availability. A statement from Platform X assured players of their commitment to bringing Marvel Snap back online, stating:

“Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress”.

While Marvel Snap faced this setback, not all ByteDance apps were affected. For instance, games like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain playable, highlighting the selective nature of the ban.

Amidst these challenges, Marvel Snap introduced an exciting new card, Moonstone, which has the potential to shake up the game's meta. Moonstone, an Ongoing archetype card with a cost of 4 and power of 6, can copy the ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-cost cards at her lane. This ability is particularly impactful given the number of low-cost Ongoing cards currently available, such as Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, which primarily generate power. Moonstone, however, can quickly amplify her power by obtaining these effects for free, making her a game-changer in the current meta.
