Author:Kristen Update:Mar 15,2025

Ready to conquer the Chatacabra, that long-tongued menace in *Monster Hunter Wilds*? This guide will walk you through both killing and capturing this early-game foe, ensuring you’re well-prepared for future hunts.

How to Defeat the Chatacabra in *Monster Hunter Wilds*

Chatacabra

Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb

The Chatacabra, a large frog-like monster, primarily uses close-range attacks with its tongue. It may also rush you from a distance. While any weapon can be effective, its smaller size might make weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade slightly less efficient due to their multi-hit attacks being less effective against smaller targets.

Most attacks involve its tongue, making the front a dangerous area. Besides the tongue lick, it slams its front limbs into the ground after a noticeable rearing animation. The only significant attack from a distance involves it raising its head and sweeping its tongue behind it.

The optimal strategy is to stay to its sides, dodging or blocking its slam attack. Utilizing its elemental weaknesses (Ice and Thunder) will significantly speed up the fight.

How to Capture the Chatacabra in *Monster Hunter Wilds*

Capturing Chatacabra

Capturing monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a consistent pattern. While the Chatacabra can't fly, making it easier than some airborne beasts, you'll need Shock Traps, Pitfall Traps, and Tranq Bombs. It’s advisable to carry one of each trap type and at least eight Tranq Bombs to account for unforeseen circumstances.

Battle the Chatacabra until its icon on the mini-map displays a skull, indicating its final retreat. Follow it, place a trap, and lure it inside. Once trapped, use two Tranq Bombs to subdue it, completing the capture.
