"Avowed: The Decision to Free Ilora"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 11,2025

At the start of Avowed, you're presented with a pivotal choice: to free a suspicious prisoner named Ilora from her cell at Fort Northreach or leave her, with the ultimate goal of using her boat to reach Paradis. Let's delve into the implications of both decisions.

Should You Free or Leave Ilora?

In role-playing games, player choice is key, but in Avowed, freeing Ilora is highly recommended. This decision not only makes Fort Northreach more manageable but also unlocks a beneficial side quest later in the game.

Freeing Ilora proves to be a strategic move. She assists in battling the enemies on the island, including the formidable boss, Steadman Ralke. Given your character's initial lack of strength and subpar equipment at the start of Avowed, Ilora's help significantly eases the challenge. Moreover, freeing her not only aligns with a compassionate choice but also sets you up for success in the later "Escape Plan" side quest.

How to Free Ilora

To free Ilora, you'll need to retrieve the key from the Warden's Room. Navigate to the hallway's end, climb the crates, and jump to the opposite platform. Enter the passageway above, break through the boards on your right to access the Warden's Room, and grab the key near the door. Use it to unlock Ilora's cell and also the adjacent cell to obtain the Deerskin Gloves.

What Happens If You Don’t Free Ilora in Avowed?

Choosing not to free Ilora results in a tougher experience at Fort Northreach and complicates the "Escape Plan" quest later on. Additionally, you'll end up facing Ilora in combat, adding to the difficulty of your escape. On the flip side, defeating her allows you to loot her body, rewarding you with various items.

In conclusion, freeing Ilora in Avowed is the recommended choice for a smoother gameplay experience and additional benefits down the line.
