Author:Kristen Update:Feb 06,2025

Hello gaming enthusiasts, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! Today's update brings a substantial lineup of new releases, forming the core of this Thursday's column. We'll also explore a noteworthy selection of new sales. Let's dive into the games!

Featured New Releases

Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club ($49.99)

The Famicom Detective Club franchise returns after a lengthy hiatus. This latest installment stays true to the originals, both in its strengths and weaknesses. A fresh mystery unfolds, presented in a style reminiscent of the recent Switch remakes. Can you crack the case of the latest serial killings? My review is forthcoming.

Gundam Breaker 4 ($59.99)

Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short, you build and battle Gunplas. While the Switch port naturally lags behind other versions in performance, it's still a satisfying experience. Check out Mikhail's insightful review!

Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn ($19.99)

Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes. Following successful revivals of 16-bit classics, they now tackle an 8-bit title. Expect a departure from the original, but fans of classic action-platformers will find much to enjoy. My review will be available early next week.

Valfaris: Mecha Therion ($19.99)

A Valfaris sequel with a significant gameplay shift. This 2.5D side-scrolling shooter offers a solid experience. While the genre change might surprise some, embracing it reveals much to appreciate. A review is on its way.

Nour: Play With Your Food ($9.99)

I'll admit, I'm a bit puzzled by this one. The food imagery is stunning, but the gameplay remains a mystery. Is it photography, puzzle-solving, or something else entirely? Perhaps Mikhail will shed some light on this.

Monster Jam Showdown ($49.99)

For monster truck enthusiasts, this game delivers. Featuring local and online multiplayer, numerous modes, and a mixed reception on other platforms, it caters to a niche audience.

WitchSpring R ($39.99)

A potential remake of the original WitchSpring, this iteration boasts the series' best visuals yet. However, the price point, nearing that of full-fledged Atelier games, might give some pause.

Depths of Sanity ($19.99)

An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Investigate your missing crew's fate in a perilous interconnected underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms, it's likely to resonate with Switch players.

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire ($19.99)

A farming and action game with a unique premise: a vegan vampire rebelling against his bloodthirsty father. While I'm personally somewhat fatigued by the genre, those with more enthusiasm for farming sims might find this appealing.

Marble Abduction! Patti Hattu ($11.79)

A classic marble roller game with 70 stages and 80 marbles to collect. Features secret collectibles and challenges. If you enjoy high-speed marble rolling, this is for you.

Leo: The Firefighter Cat ($24.99)

A kid-friendly firefighting game with 20 missions. A different take on the firefighting genre, potentially appealing to a younger audience.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage ($21.99)

A hoverboarding cat slices and dices enemies in this grotesque action game. While the core gameplay is reportedly decent, the Switch version suffers from performance issues.

Arcade Archives Finalizer Super Transformation ($7.99)

A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, retro shooter for those who enjoy this style of gameplay.

EGGCONSOLE Xanadu Scenario II PC-8801mkIISR ($6.49)

An early expansion pack featuring the debut work of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro. An expansion to the original Xanadu, offering a new underworld to explore.

The Backrooms: Survival ($10.99)

A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Supports up to ten players online, offering the best experience. Solo play might appeal to a more specific audience.

Can of Wormholes ($19.99)

A clever puzzle game where you are a sentient tin can battling worms. Features 100 hand-crafted puzzles.

Ninja I & II ($9.99)

Two NES-style microgames with a ninja twist. Competitive, supporting local multiplayer or CPU opponents.

Dice Make 10! ($3.99)

A surprisingly fun puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and tile placement. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to multiples of ten.
