Les serveurs Final Fantasy 14 rencontrent des problèmes majeurs

Les serveurs nord-américains de Final Fantasy XIV ont connu une panne importante le 5 janvier, affectant les quatre centres de données. Les premiers rapports et comptes de joueurs suggèrent que la cause était une panne de courant localisée à Sacramento, en Californie, probablement due à un transformateur grillé, plutôt qu'à une attaque DDoS. La panne, qui a commencé vers 20h00 (heure de l'Est), a duré environ une heure.

Contrairement aux incidents précédents impliquant des attaques DDoS persistantes tout au long de 2024, cette panne semble être le résultat de circonstances imprévues. Les rapports cohérents faisant état d'une forte explosion dans la région de Sacramento, coïncidant avec l'indisponibilité du serveur, soutiennent fortement la théorie de la panne de courant. Alors que les attaques DDoS ont provoqué des latences et des déconnexions importantes dans le passé, nécessitant des stratégies d'atténuation et des solutions de contournement comme l'utilisation d'un VPN, cet événement met en évidence la vulnérabilité des serveurs aux facteurs externes au-delà des cyberattaques.

Square Enix a reconnu le problème sur Lodestone et a confirmé qu'une enquête était en cours. Il est intéressant de noter que les centres de données européens, japonais et océaniens n’ont pas été affectés, ce qui renforce encore la nature localisée du problème. La restauration du service a été progressive, les centres de données Aether, Crystal et Primal étant de nouveau en ligne avant Dynamis.

Ce dernier revers s'ajoute aux défis auxquels Final Fantasy XIV est confronté, en particulier si l'on considère les projets ambitieux pour 2025, y compris la sortie mobile très attendue. Les conséquences à long terme de ces problèmes de serveur récurrents restent à voir.
