Spectre Divide stellt Konsolenbetrieb kurz nach Start ein

Mountaintop Studios stellt seinen Free-to-Play-3-gegen-3-Shooter Spectre Divide ein, nur sechs Monate nach dem Start im September 2024 und Wochen nach der Veröffentlichung auf PS5 und Xbox Series X|S. Das Studio selbst schließt ebenfalls.

Mountaintop-CEO Nate Mitchell bestätigte die Schließung heute in einer Erklärung in den sozialen Medien.

„Leider hat die erste Season nicht den notwendigen Erfolg erzielt, um das Spiel zu erhalten oder den Betrieb von Mountaintop aufrechtzuerhalten“, erklärte die Stellungnahme.

Trotz einer ermutigenden ersten Woche mit rund 400.000 Spielern und einem Spitzenwert gleichzeitiger Spieler von ungefähr 10.000 auf allen Plattformen, blieben Spielerbindung und Einnahmen bald hinter den Erwartungen zurück.

„Mit der Zeit konnten die aktiven Spielerzahlen und die Einnahmen die laufenden Kosten für Spectre Divide und das Studio nicht decken“, fuhr der Beitrag fort. „Wir haben unser verbleibendes Kapital nach dem PC-Start so weit wie möglich gestreckt, aber die für die Unterstützung des Spiels erforderlichen Mittel sind nun erschöpft.“

„Wir haben jede Option zur Fortführung geprüft, einschließlich der Suche nach einem Publisher, zusätzlichen Investitionen oder einer Übernahme. Letztendlich konnten wir keine Lösung sichern. Die Branche befindet sich derzeit in einem schwierigen Zustand.“

Spectre Divide wird innerhalb der nächsten 30 Tage offline genommen, und alle seit dem Start von Season 1 getätigten Einkäufe werden erstattet.

Diese Ankündigung widerspricht den im Oktober 2024 gemachten Aussagen, die behaupteten, Spectre Divide „verschwindet nirgendwohin“.

Damals erklärte Mitchell, „Die Server werden nicht abgeschaltet und Updates werden nicht eingestellt,“ und beharrte darauf, dass Mountaintop „die Mittel habe, Spectre für lange Zeit zu unterstützen“.

IGNs Vorschau vom August 2024 lobte Spectre Divide für sein erfinderisches Dualitäts-System, das es Spielern ermöglichte, in taktischen 3-gegen-3-Matches gleichzeitig zwei Charaktere zu steuern. Sein abruptes Ende reiht sich jedoch in eine wachsende Liste eingestellter Live-Service-Spiele ein, darunter Rocksteadys Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League und Sonys Concord.
