Die mit Spannung erwartete Filmadaption des beliebten Videospiels von 2012 *Sleeping Dogs *, von dem bestätigt wurde, dass er Anfang dieses Monats abgesagt wurde, könnte jetzt dank Marvel-Star Simu Liu einen Hoffnungsschimmer haben. Laut einem Bericht von Newsweek antwortete Liu auf den Aufruf eines Fans nach einer Filmadaption auf X/Twitter und erklärte, er arbeite aktiv daran, das Projekt wiederzubeleben. "Zusammenarbeit mit den Rechtsinhabern, um schlafende Hunde auf die Leinwand zu bringen", erklärte Liu und stellte das erneute Interesse unter den Fans aus.

Die Filmadaption wurde 2017 zunächst angekündigt, wobei die Kampfkunstlegende Donnie Yen an Star angeschlossen war. Das Projekt verschwand jedoch ein Jahr später aus dem Radar, und vor wenigen Wochen bestätigte Yen, dass es offiziell abgeschafft worden war. In einer offenen Erklärung teilte Yen seine Enttäuschung mit und enthüllte: "Ich habe viel Zeit verbracht und viel mit diesen Produzenten gearbeitet und sogar etwas von meinem eigenen Geld in die Erlangung der Entwürfe und einige der Rechte investiert. Ich habe jahrelang gewartet. Und ich wollte es wirklich. Seine Worte malten ein Bild von Hingabe und Frustration und reflektierten die unvorhersehbare Natur der Filmproduktion.

Mit Yens Ankündigung schien alle Hoffnung für Fans verloren zu sein, die Fortsetzung des Action-Franchise-Unternehmens in Hongkong auf der großen Leinwand zu sehen. Die unerwartete Reaktion von Simu Lius auf einen zufälligen Social -Media -Beitrag hat die Hoffnung wieder entfacht. Ob Liu die Rechte erfolgreich sichern oder es schaffen, den Film wieder in die Strecke zu bringen, bleibt abzuwarten.
