The much-anticipated film adaptation of the beloved 2012 video game, *Sleeping Dogs*, which was confirmed to be canceled earlier this month, may now have a glimmer of hope thanks to Marvel star Simu Liu. According to a report by Newsweek, Liu responded to a fan's call for a movie adaptation on X/Twitter, stating he is actively working to revive the project. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," Liu declared, sparking renewed interest among fans.

The film adaptation was initially announced back in 2017, with martial arts legend Donnie Yen attached to star. However, the project vanished from the radar a year later, and just a few weeks ago, Yen confirmed that it had been officially scrapped. In a candid statement, Yen shared his disappointment, revealing, "I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights. I waited for years. And I really wanted to do it. And unfortunately... I don't know. You know how Hollywood goes, right?" His words painted a picture of dedication and frustration, reflecting the unpredictable nature of film production.

With Yen's announcement, all hope seemed lost for fans eager to see the continuation of the Hong Kong-set action franchise on the big screen. However, Simu Liu's unexpected response to a random social media post has reignited hope. Whether Liu will successfully secure the rights or manage to get the film back on track remains to be seen.

*Sleeping Dogs* originally hit the shelves on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, immersing players in the gripping narrative of detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates one of Hong Kong's notorious Triad crime syndicates. The game was critically acclaimed, receiving an impressive 8/10 from IGN. Despite its success, no sequels were developed, leaving fans yearning for more. Liu's involvement could potentially bring this cherished story to a wider audience, offering a cinematic experience that does justice to the game's intense action and compelling storyline.
