Glen Schofield enthüllte kürzlich in einem Interview mit DanAllenGaming seinen Versuch, das Dead Space-Franchise mit dem ursprünglichen Entwicklungsteam wiederzubeleben. EA lehnte den Vorschlag jedoch unter Berufung auf aktuelle Branchenprioritäten und Komplexitäten ab.

Während Schofield sich zum Dead Space 4-Konzept zurückhielt, brachte er die Bereitschaft seines Teams zum Ausdruck, das Projekt noch einmal zu überdenken, sollte EA es sich noch einmal überlegen. „Dead Space 3“ endete mit mehreren unbeantworteten Fragen, insbesondere zum Schicksal von Isaac Clarke, einem Erzählstrang, der nur darauf wartete, fortgesetzt zu werden. Nach seinem Abschied von EA leitete Schofield das Callisto Protocol, einen spirituellen Nachfolger von Dead Space. Auch wenn es nicht an den Erfolg von Dead Space herankam, legte es doch den Grundstein für eine mögliche Fortsetzung.

Dead Space dreht sich um den Ingenieur Isaac Clarke, der an Bord des verlassenen Bergbauschiffs Ishimura gestrandet ist. Die Besatzung der Ishimura, die ursprünglich mit der Mineraliengewinnung beauftragt war, unternahm heimlich eine Mission, die sie durch ein mysteriöses kosmisches Signal in groteske Kreaturen verwandelte. Isoliert im Vakuum des Weltraums muss Isaac allein der Ishimura entkommen und die schreckliche Wahrheit ans Licht bringen.

Das Original „Dead Space“ gilt als wegweisendes Werk des Weltraumhorrors und lässt sich offen von Klassikern wie „Alien“ von Ridley Scott und „The Thing“ von John Carpenter inspirieren. Wir empfehlen dringend, diesen wichtigen Titel auszuprobieren. Während spätere Einträge solide Third-Person-Action bieten, haben sie die Horroraspekte der Serie deutlich gemindert.
