Sony объявила о значительных изменениях в своем обслуживании PlayStation Plus, отметив стратегический сдвиг в сторону PlayStation 5. Начиная с января 2026 года, игры PlayStation 4 больше не станут основным продуктом ежемесячных игр PlayStation Plus Essentials и в каталоге Games. Вместо этого Sony сосредоточится исключительно на названиях PlayStation 5. Этот переход был подробно описан в недавнем сообщении в блоге PlayStation, наряду с раскрытием ежемесячных названий февраля 2025 года.

По словам Sony, «когда мы переходим к PS5, игры PS4 больше не будут ключевыми преимуществами и будут иногда предлагать для PlayStation Plus ежемесячные игры и каталог игр». Это изменение не повлияет на игры PS4, которые подписчики уже заявили через службу. PlayStation 4, запущенная в 2013 году, проложила путь для PlayStation 5, который последовал в 2020 году.
