Мир Mario Kart представляет новую карту, сочетающую культовые локации вселенной Марио. Продюсер Косуке Ябуки пояснил, что эта карта отличается от классического Королевства Грибов.

В интервью The Verge 3 июня Ябуки объяснил, что карта ориентирована на динамику гонок. Он отметил: «Путешествуя по этому миру, вы заметите знакомые элементы, такие как блоки с вопросительными знаками и трубы телепортации. Дизайн мира, от высоты гор до протяженности пустынь, был специально разработан для Mario Kart World».

Ябуки подчеркнул, что акцент был сделан на удовольствии от гонок, а не на реальной географии. Он добавил, что изменение любого элемента вызывало цепную реакцию, требующую комплексных корректировок из-за взаимосвязанной природы карты.

«Настройка ландшафта — сложная задача, поскольку изменение одного аспекта требует доработки многих других», — сказал он. Это особенно проявилось, когда количество гонщиков увеличилось с 12 до 24, что потребовало переработки основных элементов.

Nintendo опубликовала заметки к начальному обновлению Mario Kart World перед его запуском. Версия 1.1.0 представляет CameraPlay, функцию Switch 2, позволяющую транслировать видео игроков в реальном времени с помощью отдельно продаваемой камеры.

Патч также активирует онлайн- и LAN-игру, поддерживает загрузку и скачивание данных призраков в испытаниях на время, расширяет выбор начальных персонажей и убирает ограничения по времени для выбора трассы в беспроводной игре или LAN-игре.
