Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana cleverly introduces challenging bosses, gradually teaching players to master the game's mechanics. While not excessively long, the game offers a satisfying number of boss encounters.

Initially, players might need some guidance, but Gyalva, the formidable Lord of the Blazing Prison, only appears after players have a solid understanding of combat, abilities, and game mechanics.

How to Defeat Gyalva in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

- Boss Location: Zone of Lava, the Escapeless Abyss

  • Boss Health: 1200 (Normal Difficulty)

After defeating Guilen, the Fire Eater, players advance through the Zone of Lava to face Gyalva. The key to victory is strategic positioning at either end of the bridge.

The fight restricts player movement, with the bridge platforms constantly shifting due to Gyalva's attacks. Players must repeatedly jump to engage Gyalva, utilizing wind magic to maximize damage output within limited timeframes.

The Ys series remains a standout in Nihon Falcom's library, and conquering bosses provides a rewarding sense of accomplishment.

Gyalva's Attack Patterns in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

While a remake of Ys 3, Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana features original bosses, including Gyalva. Although the fight's core mechanics are straightforward, Gyalva can inflict significant damage quickly. Gyalva moves across the bridge, often launching bridge sections with fiery attacks.

Prior to this encounter, consider upgrading Adol's equipment and aiming for level 21. This is achievable through consistent combat with smaller enemies.

Spinning Attacks

Gyalva employs two spinning attacks. The first involves traversing a bridge section, sending impacted platforms airborne. The second is a full-bridge traversal, causing all platforms to flip. These attacks can severely deplete health if under-leveled.

To avoid the first, move to either side of the affected area. For the second, the only safe position is on either ledge at the bridge's ends. Staying close to one side ensures a safe retreat to the edge.

Avoid the very edge, as this traps you. Instead, attack Gyalva and then retreat to the nearest ledge.

Fire Blast

Gyalva launches a fireball, sending bridge platforms into the air. This attack provides an opportunity to land several hits on Gyalva.

Bursting Torches

Torches along the bridge periodically erupt in flames, accompanied by a fireball traveling between them. The timing of these bursts is unpredictable, but the area is safe once a burst concludes.
