WoW Patch 11.1: Two New Races Revealed

Summary

World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 introduces two exciting new race types: Breakneck D.R.I.V.E. races and Skyrocket races utilizing Goblin jetpacks. Undermine, the new zone, disables flying, instead offering customizable D.R.I.V.E. cars and jetpack-powered aerial challenges. Skyrocket races present unique gameplay, balancing speed and maneuverability, with ring collection impacting both.

World of Warcraft: Dragonflight's Patch 11.1, "Undermined," introduces a thrilling new way to experience the subterranean metropolis of Undermine – the Goblin capital city. This expansive zone eschews traditional flying, replacing it with the dynamic D.R.I.V.E. system. This customizable, mount-like car allows for high-speed traversal of Undermine's streets, surpassing even the speed of Skyriding. Alongside the D.R.I.V.E. system comes the introduction of Breakneck races, pushing the D.R.I.V.E. system to its limits.

But the excitement doesn't end there! Patch 11.1 also brings Skyrocket races, a unique aerial challenge utilizing Goblin jetpacks. This innovative racing style blends elements of traditional flying and Skyriding. Unlike Steady flight, players can't stop mid-air, yet they retain momentum and altitude unlike Skyriding. As demonstrated by WoW content creator MrGM on the Public Test Realm, collecting rings increases speed, but reduces turning responsiveness, adding a layer of strategic depth.

Undermine's no-fly zone means no Skyriding races. However, both Breakneck and Skyrocket races offer Bronze, Silver, and Gold achievement rewards. Interestingly, reverse versions of all Skyrocket and Breakneck races exist, though advanced or challenge courses are absent.

Initial player feedback on Skyrocket races is mixed. Some are enthusiastic, while others find the flight controls stiff and less responsive than Skyriding. However, with Patch 11.1 still under development, refinements are expected before the February release.
