Witcher 4: Latest Updates Revealed

The Witcher saga continues! Nearly a decade after the critically acclaimed The Witcher 3, a first look at The Witcher 4 has arrived, introducing Ciri as the new protagonist.

As many fans will remember, Ciri is Geralt's adopted daughter. With Geralt's trilogy concluded, the spotlight shifts to the next generation. The teaser depicts Ciri intervening in a village gripped by superstition, where a young woman is about to be sacrificed to a monster. Ciri's attempt to rescue the woman reveals a far more complex and sinister situation.

An official release date for The Witcher 4 remains elusive. Considering the development timelines of The Witcher 3 (3.5-4 years) and Cyberpunk 2077 (even longer), and the early stage of The Witcher 4's production, a release within the next three to four years seems plausible, at minimum.

While platform announcements are pending, given the projected timeline, a current-generation console exclusive is likely. However, no platform exclusivity has been confirmed. We anticipate simultaneous releases on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Unlike The Witcher 3's Switch port, a similar feat seems unlikely this time, although a potential Switch 2 release remains a possibility.

Gameplay details are scarce, but CD Projekt Red is expected to maintain the core gameplay mechanics of the franchise. The CGI trailer hints at returning elements such as potions, signs, and combat. Ciri's chain, used to subdue the monster and potentially channel magic, appears to be a notable addition.

Previously, Doug Cockle (Geralt's voice actor) confirmed Geralt's presence in the game, albeit in a supporting role, suggesting a mentor-like function. This is further supported by dialogue snippets from the older Witcher heard in the teaser.
