Watch Predator Movies: Chronological Order Guide

Author:Kristen Update:May 13,2025

Humans often see themselves as the pinnacle of the food chain, yet in the galactic arena, we're hardly more than a minor annoyance. The Predator franchise, kickstarted by the iconic 1987 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, introduces us to the "Yautja"—towering, trophy-hunting aliens from space. These beings travel across worlds for lethal sport and have been known to abduct species for hunting games back on their home planet.

The initial two Predator films in 1987 and 1990 set the stage for an enthralling saga. As the Xenomorphs from the Alien series also pose a cinematic threat to humanity, the 2000s saw the creation of a shared universe with the Alien vs. Predator crossover movies. In the subsequent decade, filmmakers like Robert Rodriguez, Shane Black, and Dan Trachtenberg each added their unique flair to the franchise.

With two new Predator movies slated for 2025, now is the perfect time to revisit the original sci-fi classics. Whether you're a die-hard fan or a newcomer, here's how you can watch every Predator movie in order. Below, you'll find a detailed timeline of the Predator movies and where to watch them online.

Predator Movies in (Chronological) Order

1. Prey (2022)

Prey serves as a prequel, and while it's recommended to watch it after the other films (especially Predator 2), it's the starting point for a true chronological viewing. Set in 1719 on the Great Plains, Prey follows Naru, a young Comanche woman played by Amber Midthunder. Her hunt with her brother takes a dangerous turn when she encounters a primitive Predator. Determined to prove herself, Naru sets out to take down the alien hunter in this fresh addition to the three-decade saga.

It all began with 1987's Predator, directed by John McTiernan of Die Hard fame and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger alongside Carl Weathers, Jesse Ventura, Bill Duke, and Shane Black. This action classic showcases a near-unstoppable military rescue team facing off against an invisible force in the South American jungles. When the alien hunter is revealed, Schwarzenegger's character, Dutch, must outsmart and defeat a technologically superior foe.

4. AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)

After a 14-year hiatus, the franchise returned with a bang through a crossover with the Alien series. Directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, AVP: Alien vs. Predator introduced a backstory linking the Yautja and Xenomorphs, revealing that Predators have been using Earth for centuries to hunt Xenomorphs bred from human hosts. Sanaa Lathan, Lance Henriksen, Raoul Bova, and Ewen Bremner lead the cast.

Featuring a stellar cast including Adrien Brody, Walton Goggins, Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, and Alice Braga, the film shows humans—specifically "established killers"—being abducted for sport. While the exact Earth year isn't specified, it can be assumed to be around 2010, placing it sixth in the chronological order.
