Not long ago, if you saw someone choosing Terrorblade as an Offlaner in Dota 2, you might have thought they were throwing the game. After a stint as a Position 5 support, Terrorblade had seemingly vanished from the meta. Sure, you'd occasionally spot him as a Position 1 Hard Carry in specific matchups, but in the professional scene, he was largely forgotten.

But now, things have changed. Terrorblade has emerged as a favored choice for Position 3, particularly in the high MMR brackets of Dota 2. What makes him effective in the Offlane? What items should you equip for this role? This comprehensive guide on building Terrorblade as a Position 3 will answer these questions and more.

Dota 2 Terrorblade Overview

Before diving into why Terrorblade is a strong pick for the Offlane, let's examine the hero. Terrorblade is a melee Agility hero with a remarkable Agility gain per level. Although his Strength and Intelligence gains are modest, his high Agility provides substantial armor as he levels up. By late game, dealing Physical Damage to him becomes nearly impossible, even for the top Dota 2 heroes.

Additionally, Terrorblade boasts an above-average movement speed, which, paired with his abilities, enables him to efficiently farm stacked jungle camps for essential item purchases. His Innate Ability, Dark Unity, boosts the damage of his illusions within a certain radius. He possesses three active skills and an ultimate.

A Quick Overview Of Terrorblade's Abilities

Ability NameHow it Works
ReflectionTerrorblade creates an invulnerable illusion of all enemy heroes in a target area, dealing 100% damage and slowing the attack and movement speed of the enemy.
Conjure ImageCreates a controllable illusion of Terrorblade that deals damage and lasts for an extended period.
MetamorphosisTerrorblade transforms into a powerful demon, gaining increased attack range and damage. All Conjure Image illusions within a certain range also switch to Metamorphosis form.
SunderTerrorblade swaps his current HP with the target's current HP. This ability cannot kill the enemy hero but can reduce them to 1 HP when the Condemned Facet is active. It can also be used on allies to save them.

Terrorblade's upgrades with Aghanim's Scepter and Aghanim's Shard are as follows:

  • Aghanim's Shard: Grants Terrorblade a new ability, Demon Zeal. When activated, it causes Terrorblade to lose a percentage of his current health in exchange for health regeneration, bonus attack speed, and bonus movement speed. This can only be used in melee form.
  • Aghanim's Scepter: Provides Terrorblade with a new ability, Terror Wave. Activating it releases a wave of terror that inflicts Fear on enemy heroes and deals damage. It also activates Metamorphosis for 10 seconds or extends the duration if already active.

Terrorblade also has two Facets:

  • Condemned: Removes the health threshold for Sundered enemies.
  • Soul Fragment: Conjure Image illusions always spawn at full health, but casting the ability incurs an additional health cost.

Position 3 Terrorblade Build Guide in Dota 2

What makes Terrorblade excel in the Offlane is his first ability, Reflection. This low-mana, low-cooldown spell creates an Illusion of enemy heroes for a brief period. Importantly, the Illusion deals 100% damage, allowing you to effectively neutralize enemy core heroes like Lina during battles.

However, Terrorblade's low Health Pool remains a challenge. To counter this, you'll need to select items that bolster his survivability. Additionally, choosing the right Talents and sequencing your ability upgrades correctly is crucial for maximizing his potential.

Facets, Talents, & Ability Order

When playing Terrorblade in the Offlane, opt for the Condemned Facet. By eliminating the HP threshold for Sunder, it can become devastatingly effective when timed correctly. A well-timed Sunder can even take down a heavily farmed Huskar in one hit.

Start by picking up Reflection as soon as you enter the lane. This ability allows you to safely harass the enemy Safelane duo and secure early kills. Prioritize maxing it out as quickly as possible. At level 2, choose Metamorphosis to increase your kill threat, and at level 4, select Conjure Image. Finally, acquire Sunder at level 6.
