Warframe's TennoCon 2024: A Blast from the Past with Warframe: 1999

TennoCon 2024 delivered a knockout punch with the announcement of Warframe: 1999, a massive update promising a retro-futuristic adventure. Get ready for a wild ride through a Techrot-infested 1999, complete with killer fashion and a whole new way to play.

Kicking things off is a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," arriving in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved character, this quest sets the stage for the main event, introducing the 1999 setting and the powerful Sevatgoth Prime Warframe and its weapons. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for experiencing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.

Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999 Earth, where the Y2K bug manifests as a deadly virus. The game takes place in Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city corrupted by Techrot. Navigate this retro-dystopia using the new Atomicyles, agile vehicles that allow for bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Players will control the Hex, a team of six heroes, each sporting a Protoframe – a Warframe showcasing the human beneath the armor.

The Hex boasts a star-studded cast, featuring voice acting talent like Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interact with them in a distinctly 1999 way: instant messaging! Successful interactions might even lead to a New Year's kiss.

Prepare to face a truly 90s antagonist: On-lyne, a boy band corrupted by the Technocyte Coda. Led by the charismatic Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides), this infected band boasts a surprisingly catchy hit single, "Party of Your Lifetime," available on all major streaming services.

Fashion is key, and Warframe: 1999 delivers major upgrades to the fashion system. Players can equip two fashion frame loadouts and switch between them seamlessly. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin System, complete with fully voiced lines for combat and idle interactions.

Anime Arthur and Aoi

Beyond the core gameplay, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE to produce an anime short based on Warframe: 1999, launching later this year. Additionally, new Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (coming early 2025) are also on the horizon.

Warframe: 1999 is set to launch this Winter, but there's plenty to keep you busy until then. Download Warframe today from the App Store and prepare for a time-traveling adventure!
