Switch 2 Enhances Privacy with Opt-In Monitoring

Author:Kristen Update:Nov 03,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches in less than a month, raising awareness about its potential audio/video recording capabilities. Nintendo recently updated its privacy policy (noted by NintendoSoup) regarding these features, which could affect how players use the new console at home or on the go.

Privacy Policy Updates Explained

Nintendo's policy states it "may use collected information to maintain a secure environment for certain services." The updated Your Content section clarifies: "With consent, we may monitor and record video/audio interactions between users to enforce terms of service."

"Our services may process user-generated content including text, images, audio, video, nicknames and icons – always in compliance with our terms of use and privacy policy."

New Communication Features

As the June 5 launch approaches, Nintendo emphasizes enhanced multiplayer communication:

  • Dedicated C button for instant voice chat
  • Built-in microphone functionality
  • Screen sharing for remote couch co-op
  • Optional camera accessory for video streaming

These social features, while innovative, come with the privacy considerations outlined in the updated policy. The video quality reportedly prioritizes functionality over high resolution.
