"Switch 2 Launch to See High Sales Despite Price, June Release Eyed: Analysts"

Author:Kristen Update:May 13,2025

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is currently a focal point of discussion in the video game industry. According to analysts who spoke with IGN, the anticipated launch price for Nintendo's next-generation console is expected to be around $400. This expectation is supported by a recent Bloomberg report, which echoes similar predictions from Japan-focused analysts. This price would represent a significant increase over the original Nintendo Switch.

However, one analyst suggested to Bloomberg that Nintendo might consider an even higher price point, potentially reaching up to $499. Despite the higher cost, analysts are confident that the Nintendo Switch 2 will see a massive launch, potentially becoming the biggest console launch in history, regardless of its price. Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg, “They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price.”

One of the key reasons for the anticipated popularity of the Switch 2 during its launch period is the high demand for its lineup of launch titles. Serkan Toto predicts a new Mario Kart game, which Nintendo has already hinted at, along with a new 3D Mario game, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and Metroid Prime 4, all expected to be released within the first year of the Switch 2’s life. Additionally, third-party support is expected to be strong, with titles such as Call of Duty from Activision.

There's a long list of rumored third-party titles planned for the console. In an interview with IGN, the developer of Civilization 7, Firaxis, found the Switch 2's Joy-Con mouse mode to be "definitely intriguing." French video game and accessories maker Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has announced it has Switch 2 games ready to launch. Rumors also suggest that the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong might be coming to the Switch 2. Last month, EA confirmed that Madden, FC, and The Sims would be a great fit for the Switch 2.

It's important to note that Activision has yet to officially announce its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has not commented on the Bloomberg report.

As for the release date, June 2025 is increasingly mentioned in online discussions and within the gaming media. Analyst Robin Zhu from Sanford C. Bernstein told Bloomberg that the Switch 2 is expected to launch in June with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. If this inventory sells out quickly, the Switch 2 could surpass its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5 in sales, setting new records.

There has been some concern about the impact of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff war on the pricing of the Nintendo Switch 2. The Trump administration introduced new tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, which could affect the price and availability of video games, consoles, and other tech products. However, Bloomberg noted that the Switch 2 will be assembled in both Vietnam and China, with one analyst suggesting that this diversified manufacturing strategy reduces risk for Nintendo.

While much remains unknown about the Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo plans to reveal more details during a Direct presentation scheduled for April 2.

The Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. While most details, such as the full lineup of games and the function of the mysterious new Joy-Con button, were not disclosed, the Joy-Con mouse theory has gained traction.

Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. The Switch 2 is expected to use gyro mechanics similar to those in smartphones without screen locks. Unlike the original Nintendo Switch, which used rails to attach the Joy-Cons, the new controllers will feature magnets, allowing them to be attached on either side.

While this change might not significantly impact the hardware, it will allow players to customize the placement of certain buttons and the headphone port. If this feature makes it into the final product, it could introduce interesting new gameplay mechanics.
