Star Wars Outlaws Gets More Bad Sales News

Star Wars Outlaws Underperforms, Outsold by Jedi: Survivor

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws, the franchise's first open-world title, is significantly underperforming, falling short of sales projections and even being outsold by 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, according to recent reports.

Despite initially positive reviews upon its August 2024 launch, player reception soured due to criticism of the game's combat and stealth mechanics. Subsequent updates aimed at addressing these issues proved insufficient to revive sales, leading to a sharp drop in Ubisoft's stock price. The company acknowledged the game's underperformance in September.

Adding to the disappointment, industry reports indicate that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a critically acclaimed single-player title, has surpassed Outlaws in sales figures, although precise numbers remain undisclosed. In Europe, Outlaws' performance was particularly weak, ranking only 47th in 2024's best-selling games.

Several factors likely contributed to Jedi: Survivor's success. As a sequel to the popular Fallen Order, it benefited from pre-existing brand recognition and overwhelmingly positive reviews. Furthermore, a 2023 update expanding its availability to PS4 and Xbox One platforms generated renewed interest.

In contrast, Outlaws has struggled to gain traction despite ongoing post-launch support. Massive Entertainment has released updates and DLC, including "Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card" featuring Lando Calrissian, and a planned "Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune" expansion for Spring 2025 featuring Hondo Ohnaka. However, these efforts have yet to significantly impact the game's overall performance.
