Upgrade Prerequisites:

Before upgrading, you need the Staff of Ice itself. Acquire it from the Mystery Box or by collecting its three components. Early access to the Dark Aether Nexus, achieved by opening the Door to Nowhere, is crucial.

Upgrade Steps:

Step 1: Freezing Dark Aether Crystals

Freeze three Dark Aether Crystals rapidly using the Staff of Ice. These crystals reside in underground lanterns (black frame, purple glow). Perks like Stamin-Up and PHD Flopper (with Tribologist) significantly aid speed. Optimize your route; the most efficient path involves the tomb area, the Shrine of the Hierophants, and the Subterranean Temple entrance lantern (avoiding the lantern near Quick Revive due to distance). Successful completion triggers a quote from Archibald, signaling progression to the Dark Aether Nexus.

Step 2: Targeting Floating Runes in the Dark Aether Nexus

Within the Dark Aether Nexus, locate three floating rocks bearing glowing purple Runes. Each Rune displays a unique symbol (note these symbols). Use the Staff of Ice to shoot each Rune; a hitmarker confirms success. Shooting the Rune causes the rock to descend, improving visibility. A scoped weapon can enhance accuracy. The order of shooting is inconsequential.

Step 3: Deciphering the Rune Symbol Puzzle

After Step 2, a stone wall replaces a portal in the Dark Aether Nexus. Return to the corresponding map area; a wall with Runic icons appears. Identify and shoot the three Runes matching the symbols from the floating rocks using the Staff of Ice. The portal will open regardless of correctness; however, incorrect selections teleport you to an unintended location within the Dark Aether Nexus. Multiple failures may necessitate waiting for the next round. Correct selections lead to a floating rock and a purple orb. Interact with the orb.

Step 4: Escorting the Soul Chest Orb

The activated Orb begins moving. Maintain proximity and eliminate zombies near it; their essence fuels the Orb's movement. The Orb eventually settles in a central structure, forming a small purple portal. Interact with the portal to upgrade the Staff of Ice to the Ull's Arrow.

Ull's Arrow Abilities:

The upgraded Ull's Arrow boasts a powerful charged AoE attack and an alternate fire mode for reviving downed teammates, mirroring its counterparts from Black Ops 2 and 3.
