Spider-Man 2 Debuts to 'Mixed' Steam Reviews Amid Serious PC Performance Problems

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 27,2025

Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its impressive performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant number of players are reporting various technical problems, resulting in a "mixed" user review rating.

Currently, only 55% of Steam reviews are positive. Many users, even those with high-end hardware like RTX 4090 GPUs and the latest drivers, are experiencing frequent crashes. One user reported crashes every five minutes, rendering the game unplayable. Another described the game as "rough," citing issues such as loading failures in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates, audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and other performance problems. Several users have already requested refunds.

The primary issue seems to be frequent crashes of the game's graphics controller, even on high-end PCs. A common error message points to outdated drivers, excessive in-game settings, GPU overheating, or game errors.

PlayBeyond crashes, other reported problems include malfunctioning DLSS and ray tracing, extended loading times, missing textures, and audio glitches. Some players claim performance stutters after prolonged gameplay, eventually leading to complete crashes, suggesting a potential memory leak.

Nixxes, the port developer, acknowledged the issues on the Steam forums. They advised users to consult their troubleshooting guides on the Nixxes Support website and contact them directly if problems persist, providing logs and crash dumps for faster diagnosis. They also addressed a bug affecting photo-op missions, suggesting a workaround involving lowering graphics settings or resolution if frame rates drop below 20 FPS.
