Sony Faces Backlash Over PSN Requirement; God of War Ragnarok Steam Rating 'Mixed'

The gaming community has unleashed its fury as fans of God of War Ragnarok have reportedly review-bombed the game on Steam in response to Sony's contentious requirement for a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to play on PC. Following its recent launch on Steam, God of War Ragnarok has garnered a 'mixed' user score, currently sitting at a 6/10 rating. The backlash stems from Sony's decision to mandate a PSN account for this single-player action-adventure title, leaving many fans frustrated and prompting the negative reviews.

Despite the uproar, some players have reported that they were able to play the game without linking a PSN account. One user stated, "I get why people are upset about the PlayStation account stuff. It sucks when developers stuff online features into a single-player game. But I don't even understand because I could play fine without logging in. It sucks because those reviews are gonna turn people away from an incredible game."

Another player expressed frustration with the game's launch experience, writing, "PSN account requirement kills the excitement, launched the game and even logged in but it gets stuck on the Black screen, didn't play the game but it shows I played it for 1 hour 40 minutes, how ridiculous that can be."

However, amidst the negative feedback, there are players who have left positive reviews, appreciating the game itself while acknowledging that the backlash is largely due to Sony's PSN policy. One such review reads, "Good story as expected. Players are giving negative reviews mostly for PSN. Sony has to look carefully now into this matter. Otherwise, the game is top-notch to play on PC."

Sony encountered a similar issue with Helldivers 2 earlier this year, where a PSN account was initially required to play. Due to widespread backlash, Sony reversed its decision and removed the PSN account linking requirement for Helldivers 2. This history suggests that Sony may need to reconsider its approach to PSN account integration in their PC titles.
