Skateboarding Returns: Console Playtest for the New Skate Game Now Live!

Exciting news for console gamers! The highly anticipated new entry in the Skate franchise, skate., is now available for playtesting on Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While PC players have been enjoying early access since mid-2022, this marks the first opportunity for Xbox and PlayStation users to experience the series' return after a 15-year hiatus.

The last mainline Skate game, Skate 3, launched in 2010. Despite a dedicated fanbase, EA seemingly shelved the franchise. However, persistent fan demand, fueled by the #Skate4 hashtag, ultimately led to the creation of a dedicated development team and the announcement of skate. Initially slated for early access in 2025, this console playtest represents significant progress.

The playtest is accessible through the skate. Insider program, requiring registration. A recent video from the development team confirmed additional Black hairstyle options and playfully addressed the "Fall 2024" playtest announcement. While specific gameplay details, such as the improved replay editor, remain under wraps, the anticipation continues to build.

skate. is confirmed as a free-to-play, live-service game set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, a work-in-progress inspired by various real-world and previous Skate game locations. While a map leak surfaced in 2023, its current state remains unknown. Fans can either join the playtest or patiently await the game's wider release.

Other Skate Games to Enjoy in the Meantime

While skate. is targeting an early access launch in 2025, delays are always a possibility. Fortunately, several other skateboarding games offer enjoyable alternatives until the official release.
