Samurai Adventure Debuts with Like a Dragon Demo Today

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 24,2025

A free demo for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth's spin-off, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, launches today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam!

RGG Studio made the announcement via X/Twitter, stating the demo will be available at 7am Pacific / 10am Eastern / 3pm UK. The full game releases February 21st, also on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, though these platforms won't receive the demo.

While RGG Studio hasn't confirmed save transfer from the demo to the full game, it seems unlikely. The demo offers access to freeroam and battle areas typically unlocked later in the main game, deviating from the natural story progression.

The demo allows players to:

  • Explore portions of Honolulu and Madlantis, areas inaccessible early in the full game.
  • Utilize both Mad Dog and Sea Dog fighting styles.
  • Battle powerful bounty enemies.
  • Engage in four ship and deck battles within the Pirates' Coliseum.
  • Experiment with new customization options.
  • Enjoy karaoke featuring three selectable songs.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, a sequel to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (the eighth mainline entry, or ninth including Yakuza 0), follows an amnesiac Goro Majima's journey as a pirate across Hawaii.

An October Xbox Partner Showcase trailer showcased ship combat reminiscent of Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, and the return of Taiga Saejima hints at deeper connections to the main series.

Expected to be significantly longer than Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, the game's story is estimated to take 15-18 hours to complete. Fans can unlock a Kiryu Kazuma costume for Majima by subscribing to email notifications or joining the Sega rewards program.
