If you had any doubt that *Rune Slayer* isn’t an MMORPG, here’s your proof: it has fishing. And as we all know, if a game has fishing, it’s officially an MMORPG. Kidding aside, you’re here to learn how fishing works in *Rune Slayer*, and we’re here to guide you through it. We struggled at first, but once we figured it out, we knew we had to share the knowledge. Spoiler Alert: It definitely isn’t as intuitive as in *Fisch*.
Before you embark on your fishing adventure, make sure to accept the fishing quest from Simon the Fisherman. This white-haired NPC can be found at one of the piers where the Baracuda is swimming. Simon needs you to catch 5 "fish," and in return, he will reward you with a Tackle Box (we'll explain the quotation marks later).
Here’s the twist: **to catch fish, you need a fishing rod and some bait/tackle**, and conveniently, Simon the Fisherman sells these items.
So, purchase a Wood Fishing Rod and some Worms from Simon. While most players suggest having at least 5 worms, we opted for 10 to be safe. Before you ask, NO, you cannot equip the bait. The bait (Worm) simply needs to be in your inventory, and although you don’t equip it, it’s used automatically when you fish. When you catch a fish, one Worm is removed from your inventory.
But here’s the real kicker: **you won’t be able to catch any fish unless you have at least 5 bait items**. We tried with just one Worm and caught nothing. Only after stocking up to 5 Worms did we start reeling in aquatic life. We recommend placing the Worms in your hotbar to easily track your inventory. Once you have these essentials, you're ready for the next step.
First, select your Wood Fishing Rod. You can’t equip it traditionally; instead, move it to your hotbar or access it from your inventory, and your character will hold it in both hands.
**Hold M1 to cast your line and ensure it lands in a body of water** (the pier next to Simon the Fisherman is a great spot).
Now, **keep an eye on the bobber**, and when you see it **make one or two ripples**, **click M1 again to reel in your catch**. It's that simple.
**This method doesn't guarantee a catch every time**. Often, you might not catch anything at all. Other times, you'll reel in junk, but the good news is **Simon considers junk as a catch** (hence the quotation marks around "fish" earlier).
So, cast your line, wait for the ripples, hit M1, and aim to reel in anything five times. We managed to catch only two actual fish, with the rest being Old Cups.
Once you’ve caught 5 "fish," return to Simon the Fisherman to complete the quest. He will reward you with a tackle box. Open it and store your remaining worms inside to free up your inventory space.
**That’s all there is to it. Enjoy your fishing adventures in *Rune Slayer*. For more tips, check out our The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to *Rune Slayer*.**
