Will R.E.P.O come to consoles?

The co-op horror game, R.E.P.O., has exploded in popularity since its February release, boasting over 200,000 PC players. But will this chilling experience make its way to consoles? Let's dive in.

Will R.E.P.O. Come to Consoles?

Currently, there are no plans for a console release of R.E.P.O., and it may remain a PC exclusive. Developer semiwork hasn't indicated any intention to port the game to consoles. Their current focus is on refining the game's multiplayer experience on PC.

This small development team is facing a significant hurdle: balancing robust multiplayer mechanics with effective anti-cheat measures. As the developer explained to PCGamer, implementing an anti-cheat system would inadvertently break many player-created mods, a compromise they're unwilling to make. This challenge needs to be addressed before even considering a console port.

While some PC-only games, like Mouthwashing, have transitioned to consoles, it's important to note that Mouthwashing is a single-player title, simplifying the porting process considerably. Similarly, Lethal Company and Content Warning, predecessors to R.E.P.O. with similar gameplay, remain PC exclusives. While console ports were briefly considered for Content Warning last year, technical difficulties ultimately stalled those plans.

In short, the future of R.E.P.O. on consoles remains uncertain. The developer's priority is perfecting the PC version's multiplayer, making a console release unlikely in the foreseeable future.
