Rambo fans, get ready for an exciting journey back in time! A prequel project titled "John Rambo" is currently in development, helmed by the director of "Sisu" and "Big Game," Jalmari Helander. According to Deadline, Millennium Media is actively promoting the film at the Cannes market, a prime event during the Cannes Film Festival where upcoming projects seeking funding or distribution partners are showcased to potential investors. Millennium Media, renowned for producing the Expendables and Has Fallen series, previously brought us "Rambo" in 2008 and "Rambo: Last Blood" in 2019.

While details about the plot of "John Rambo" remain under wraps, it's confirmed that the story will unfold during the Vietnam War, serving as a prequel to the iconic 1982 film "First Blood." As of now, no casting decisions have been finalized, though original Rambo star Sylvester Stallone is aware of the project but not currently involved.

The screenplay for "John Rambo" has been crafted by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the talented writers behind "The Mauritanian" and "Black Adam." Production is set to kick off in Thailand this October, promising an action-packed adventure rooted in the gritty realities of wartime.

Although the concept of a Rambo prequel might catch fans by surprise, Helander's recent success with the 2023 WWII action film "Sisu" demonstrates his capability to handle high-octane narratives. "Sisu" transformed the essence of John Wick into that of an elderly Finnish commando battling Nazis in the aftermath of the Lapland War, showcasing Helander's flair for intense, action-driven storytelling.
