Sony has just rolled out an exciting new beta update for the PlayStation 5, following the recent introduction of URL linking for game sessions. This latest update, announced by Sony's VP of Product Management, Hiromi Wakai, on PlayStation.Blog, brings a range of quality-of-life improvements that promise to elevate the gaming experience for PS5 users. Key Features of the Beta Update

One of the most anticipated features of this update is the introduction of personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds. This innovative customization allows users to tailor their 3D audio experience to their specific hearing characteristics, using devices like the Pulse Elite wireless headset or Pulse Explore wireless earbuds. By running sound quality tests, users can generate an audio profile that enhances their ability to pinpoint the location of characters and objects within the game world, resulting in a more immersive gaming experience.

The beta update also introduces enhanced Remote Play settings, giving users greater control over who can access their PS5 console remotely. This feature is especially beneficial for households with multiple PS5 users, as it enables the primary user to restrict Remote Play access to selected individuals. You can manage this by navigating to [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play] > [Enable Remote Play], and choosing the users who are permitted remote access.

For those using the latest, slimmer PS5 model, the update brings adaptive charging for controllers. This feature optimizes power usage by adjusting the charging duration based on the controller's battery level when the console is in rest mode. To enable adaptive charging, go to [Settings] > [System] > [Power Saving] > [Features Available in Rest Mode], and select [Supply Power to USB Ports] > [Adaptive]. This ensures efficient energy use by halting the power supply to the USB port after a certain period if no controller is connected.

Global Release and Beta Participation

Currently, the beta is available to invited participants in the U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France. Sony plans to roll out the update globally in the coming months. This beta update comes on the heels of the recent Version 24.05-09.60.00 update, which introduced the ability to invite other players to game sessions by sharing a URL to the session. To use this feature, users can open the game session action card, select Share Link, and then scan the QR code with a mobile device to share the link. This feature, available only for open sessions, has already enhanced the social gaming experience on PS5, and the new beta update builds on this foundation by further improving personalization and control.
