Sony has exciting news for gamers in Southeast Asia with the upcoming launch of the PlayStation Portal, their innovative PS remote player. This device promises to enhance the gaming experience by allowing players to enjoy their PS5 games remotely.
Sony has officially announced the launch details for the PlayStation Portal in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. The device will hit the shelves in Singapore on September 4, 2024, with subsequent releases in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand on October 9, 2024. Pre-orders for this eagerly awaited device will commence on August 5, 2024, across the region.
Country | Price |
---|---|
Singapore | SGD 295.90 |
Malaysia | MYR 999 |
Indonesia | IDR 3,599,000 |
Thailand | THB 7,790 |
The PlayStation Portal will be available at SGD 295.90 in Singapore, MYR 999 in Malaysia, IDR 3,599,000 in Indonesia, and THB 7,790 in Thailand. This handheld device is designed to stream and play PlayStation games remotely, offering gamers a new level of flexibility.
Originally known as Project Q, the PlayStation Portal boasts an 8-inch LCD screen with a full HD 1080p display and a smooth 60 frames per second (fps) resolution. It integrates key features of the DualSense wireless controller, including adaptive triggers and haptic feedback, bringing the immersive PS5 experience into a portable format.
"PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house," Sony stated in their announcement of the PlayStation Portal's Southeast Asian release. "PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi, allowing you to seamlessly transition from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal."
One of the standout features of the PlayStation Portal is its ability to connect to a user's PS5 console over Wi-Fi, enabling a smooth transition between TV and handheld play. However, initial user feedback highlighted connectivity issues. Sony has addressed these concerns by rolling out a major update for the PlayStation Portal, which now supports connections to public Wi-Fi networks. Previously limited to slower 2.4GHz bands, the device can now connect to certain 5GHz networks thanks to Update 3.0.1, released just a few days ago.
Feedback from PlayStation Portal users on social media has been overwhelmingly positive regarding the update. One user noted, "I’m the biggest portal hater, but mine is playing much better so far," indicating a significant improvement in connectivity and overall user experience.
