Pokemon TCG Sets 20,000 Cards Opened in 24 Hours as New Guinness World Record

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) has achieved a new Guinness World Record! A 24-hour marathon unboxing livestream resulted in the opening of over 20,000 cards, setting a new benchmark for the longest unboxing livestream.

A 24-Hour Livestream Extravaganza

On November 26th, 2024, The Pokémon Company International shattered the previous record for the longest unboxing livestream, celebrating the launch of the Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion. Popular internet personalities, including Serebii's Joe Merrick, PokeGirl Ranch, and Mayplaystv, teamed up for the epic event, broadcast live on Pokémon's Twitch channel. Over 24 hours, they opened approximately 1,500 booster packs and other Pokémon products, culminating in an estimated 20,000+ cards.

Peter Murphy, Senior Director of Marketing at The Pokémon Company International, expressed his pride in the accomplishment, stating, “It’s been an incredible 24 hours of pack opening, and we’re thrilled to have achieved such an ambitious GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title alongside an amazing team of content creators.”

The event isn't over yet! The Pokémon Company's official press release promises further product giveaways on participating content creators' channels within the next two weeks. The massive collection of cards amassed during the livestream will be organized and donated to charities, including Barnardo's in the UK, before the holidays.

Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks

Released on November 8th, 2024, Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks transports players to the Terarium, a key location in the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC, The Indigo Disk. This expansion introduces Stellar Tera Pokémon ex, including the defensively powerful Archaludon ex and its Metal Defender ability.

Fans can also find iconic Dragon-type Pokémon like Palkia, Dialga, Eternatus, Alolan Exeggutor ex, and Tatsugiri ex. The expansion features beautiful illustration rare and special illustration rare cards, such as Alolan Dugtrio and Feebas, showcasing calming ocean scenes. New Tera Pokémon ex like Pallossand ex and Flygon ex add exciting new options for TCG decks.

The Scarlet & Violet - Surging Sparks expansion is also available digitally via the Pokémon TCG Live app, offering in-game bonuses for collecting and battling with the new Stellar Tera Pokémon ex.
