This impressive accomplishment, coupled with a new McDonald's collaboration, highlights the game's growing popularity. Read on to learn more.
Hajimesyacho, a popular Japanese YouTuber known for diverse content, revealed his impressive collection of 50,000 Pokémon TCG Pocket cards on Twitter (X). This was the result of purchasing the maximum 720 Poké Gold daily since the game's October 30, 2024 launch. At an estimated $100 per day, his total investment nears $8,500, excluding any potential savings from in-game sales events.
This dedication secured him a complete collection from the Genetic Apex (A1) and Mythical Island booster packs, along with limited-edition promotional cards. The latest addition, a "Pokedex" Trainer card rewarding players for the global accumulation of 40 billion cards, further exemplifies his commitment.
A surprise collaboration between The Pokémon Company and McDonald's launched on January 21, 2025, offering exclusive Pokémon-themed Happy Meals. These meals include collectible physical cards featuring popular Pokémon like Miraidon, Roaring Moon, and Rayquaza, with seven featuring a holographic finish. TCG Pocket players also receive in-game rewards: 24 Pack Hourglasses and 12 Hourglasses for opening booster packs and using the Wonder Pick feature.
Four unique Happy Meal box designs showcase Charizard, Rayquaza, Roaring Moon, Dragonite, and Pikachu. These limited-time offers are available at participating McDonald's locations until supplies last, with in-game rewards expiring on March 31, 2025.
On January 17, 2025, Pokémon TCG Pocket announced details about its upcoming trading feature on Twitter (X). Trading will initially be limited to friends with cards of similar rarity (1-4 diamonds and 1-star). Rarer cards, such as Special Illustration Rares, are excluded. A consumable item will facilitate trades, similar to Stardust in Pokémon GO.
Initially, trading will include cards from Genetic Apex (A1) and Mythical Island booster packs, with the team promising to expand the selection based on player feedback. A new booster pack is also teased for release in January.
