Next Pokemon Presents Event May Be Disappointing for Switch 2

Pokemon Presents on February 27th: No Switch 2 Announcements Expected

Don't hold your breath for Switch 2 Pokemon game reveals during the upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th. While leaks suggest an imminent Switch 2 unveiling, it appears the Pokemon franchise will remain on the original Switch for the foreseeable future. The February 27th presentation is highly anticipated to focus primarily on Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Although a next-generation Nintendo console is confirmed and will boast backward compatibility, official details remain scarce. Leaks paint a picture of a more powerful, larger iteration of the original Switch. While future Pokemon titles will undoubtedly grace the Switch 2, the upcoming Pokemon Presents will likely showcase games developed for the original Switch, all playable on the new console thanks to backward compatibility.

Focus on Existing Titles and Legends: Z-A

Expect updates on ongoing live-service games like Pokemon GO and Pokemon Trading Card Game Live. The spotlight will likely shine on Pokemon Legends: Z-A, with further details beyond the initial teaser trailer (revealing Lumiose City, returning Pokemon, and Mega Evolutions). Rumors also point to another mainline Pokemon game release this year, separate from Legends: Z-A and Generation 10.

Speculation suggests this could be Pokemon Black and White remakes or a new Let's Go installment. These, too, are rumored for the original Switch, not the Switch 2. If these leaks prove accurate, Generation 10 titles might be the first major Pokemon releases exclusive to the Switch 2.

Following a Familiar Pattern

This strategy aligns with Pokemon's historical tendency to prioritize consoles with larger install bases. Recall Pokemon Black 2 and White 2's release on the original DS, despite the 3DS's existence. History may be repeating itself. However, until official confirmation, fans will have to wait for the February 27th Pokemon Presents to know for sure.
