Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Blown Away After Discovering Some Cards Reference Iconic Game Boy Locations

Fans of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket have been raving about its stunning card art for months, but a recent discovery has taken their excitement to new heights. It turns out that some of the game's cards contain hidden details that link directly to the classic Game Boy games, sparking a wave of excitement and investigation among the community.

The intrigue began over the weekend when Reddit user asch_win highlighted a Spearow card that features more than just the Normal/Flying type Pokémon. Surrounding Spearow are elements like grass, a fence, trees, and two buildings, with the purple and yellow building in the background identified as the Celadon City Department Store from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. This building is located near Route 16 in the Kanto region, famously known for its fenced-in patch of grass where players can encounter Spearow.

The fun doesn't end with Spearow, though. Another Reddit user, jteede, discovered further ties to early titles, such as a full-art Diglett card set just East of Vermillion City and a Haunter card positioned next to Lavender Town's infamous tower. Asch_win also used a magnifying glass to reveal that some Supporter cards reference specific locations from Pokémon's rich history.

While most card illustrations depict Pokémon in dreamlike settings, seemingly detached from the series' lore, some cards, like a Pikachu variant, are recognizable from real-world collections. Others are exclusive to Pokémon TCG Pocket, and it's within these unique cards that players are uncovering these cleverly hidden Easter Eggs.

The Pokémon TCG Pocket community has been buzzing with activity over the weekend, dissecting other cards in hopes of uncovering more references. Notable finds include the S.S. Anne cruise liner subtly placed in a Gyarados full-art card, and a set of Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards that together weave a narrative set near the seaside Snorlax location from FireRed and LeafGreen.

More expansions are expected in the future, with new cards being introduced through Wonder Pick Events and other updates. As Creatures and DeNA continue to roll out cards from various generations, players are encouraged to keep their eyes peeled for more hidden references.

In the meantime, you can stay updated with the current Wonder Pick event, spotlighting Charmander and Squirtle. Also, don't miss out on why the developers are keeping their cards close to the chest about whether pack choice matters.
