Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is joining the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library soon! Read on to discover more about this classic Pokémon roguelike and the excitement it's generating among fans.
Nintendo has announced another fantastic addition to the Switch's Expansion Pack classic game collection: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team. Launching August 9th, this beloved Pokémon spin-off will be available to Expansion Pack subscribers, granting access to a curated selection of Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis titles.
Originally released globally for the Game Boy Advance in 2006, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team is a unique roguelike adventure. Players transform into Pokémon, exploring dungeons and embarking on missions to solve the mystery behind their transformation. The game's release alongside Blue Rescue Team for the Nintendo DS cemented its popularity, and it later received a remake, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, for the Switch in 2020.
The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack regularly expands its classic game library. However, the inclusion of primarily Pokémon spin-offs like Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Puzzle League has left some fans wanting more. Many are hoping to see mainline Pokémon games like Pokémon Red and Blue added to the service. While Nintendo hasn't confirmed plans for mainline titles, fans have offered various speculations.
Some suggest potential challenges with N64 Transfer Pak compatibility, others point to NSO infrastructure limitations, and the integration with the Pokémon Home app is another frequently discussed factor. Since Nintendo doesn't fully own the Pokémon Home app, contractual agreements between the companies might influence its integration with the Switch. One fan commented, "I'd guess they want to ensure there's trading and that the trading can't be exploited."
Alongside the PMD: Red Rescue Team announcement, Nintendo revealed a special offer for renewing Nintendo Switch Online memberships. As part of the Mega Multiplayer Festival (running until September 8th), purchasing a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online membership via the eShop or My Nintendo Store will unlock an extra two months of free membership. August also brings additional bonuses, including extra Gold Points on game purchases between August 5th and 18th.
Furthermore, from August 19th to 25th, there will be free trials of four multiplayer Switch titles (games to be announced later). Following this, the Nintendo Mega Multiplayer game sale will run from August 26th to September 8th, 2024.
With the anticipated launch of the Switch 2 on the horizon, Nintendo is preparing to announce its next console within the fiscal year. The future integration of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack with the Switch 2 remains unclear. For more details on the Switch 2, check out the link below!
