PlayStation Logo Pops Up on Work-in-Progress Starfield Creation, Sparking PS5 Release Speculation

Speculation about Starfield potentially coming to PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend when fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda’s official Creations website. This logo was linked to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, which was later removed. Despite its removal, fans are buzzing with the possibility that Bethesda's sci-fi game, previously exclusive to PC and Xbox, might soon be available on PS5.

The speculation naturally leads to questions about whether Bethesda plans a major content update or even a new expansion to coincide with Starfield's potential PS5 release. Following the lukewarm reception of the Shattered Space expansion, there has been little excitement about Starfield in recent months. Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company, is expected to host another summer showcase, which might be the perfect opportunity to reveal more about Starfield.

Bethesda has promised "exciting things" for Starfield this year, amidst growing player discontent over communication and updates. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to Starfield, announcing at least one more story expansion post-Shattered Space. In an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard mentioned the studio's goal to release an annual story expansion for "hopefully a very long time."

Starfield debuted in September 2023, marking Bethesda's first new intellectual property in years and their first major single-player game since Microsoft acquired parent company ZeniMax Media in March 2021. IGN's review gave Starfield a 7/10, praising its expansive role-playing quests and solid combat, despite various challenges.

In January, Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, hinted at the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5. Reports from March 2024 suggested both Starfield and MachineGames’ Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were considered for PS5. While Indiana Jones was confirmed for a PS5 release in spring 2025, Starfield has yet to be officially announced for the platform, though Spencer's remarks indicate it might be in the works.

Several Xbox titles are already available on PS5, including Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft on PlayStation consoles and plans to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Additionally, Forza Horizon 5 is slated to come to PS5 soon, with rumors suggesting Halo might finally make its way to PlayStation after being an Xbox exclusive for decades.

Spencer has explained that Xbox's multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to increase revenue for Microsoft's gaming division, especially after the massive $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. In an interview last August, Spencer emphasized the high expectations Microsoft has for its gaming business and the need to deliver strong results.

“It’s a business,” Spencer said. “We have to meet high standards within Microsoft to justify the incredible support we receive. Our focus is on making our games as strong as possible and expanding our platform across consoles, PCs, and the cloud. This strategy is essential for our success.”

Bethesda Game Studios, with its 450-person team, is currently juggling multiple projects, including Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile games, and external development partnerships.
