Comic Legend Peter David Dies at 65

Author:Kristen Update:Nov 16,2025

Peter David, the acclaimed novelist and comic book writer known for his work on The Incredible Hulk, Young Justice, and X-Factor, has passed away at age 68. The news was shared by David's longtime friend and collaborator Keith R.A. DeCandido via Facebook.

David leaves behind an impressive legacy spanning multiple decades at both Marvel and DC Comics. He is perhaps most celebrated for his groundbreaking 12-year run on Marvel's The Incredible Hulk series, where he completely reimagined the dynamic between Bruce Banner and his green alter ego. This seminal work earned David and artist Dale Keown the prestigious Eisner Award in 1992. Just as Frank Miller revolutionized Daredevil and Chris Claremont transformed the X-Men, David's contributions solidified his position as the most definitive Hulk writer in the character's history.

Among his many creative achievements, David co-created Spider-Man 2099 and delivered two transformative runs on X-Factor. His first tenure reshaped the team from the original X-Men lineup into a government-backed mutant task force, while his later work reconceived X-Factor as Madrox the Multiple Man's detective agency.

At DC Comics, David made significant contributions to Aquaman, Supergirl, and Young Justice. His work extended beyond comics into the Star Trek universe, particularly his acclaimed 1994 novel Q-Squared. David also lent his talents to television, working on Babylon 5, Young Justice, and Ben 10: Alien Force, while contributing to video games including Shadow Complex and Spider-Man: Edge of Time.

David faced significant health challenges in recent years following a stroke in 2012. His declining health led family friend Graham Murphy to establish GoFundMe campaigns in both 2022 and 2025 to support his medical needs.

He is survived by his wife Kathleen O'Shea David and their four children.
