Omori Cancels Switch and PS4 Physical Release in Europe

Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical challenges related to multilingual European localization as the reason for this decision.

Cancellation of Omori's Physical Release

The announcement, made via Twitter (X), has left fans frustrated after a series of delays. Initially slated for a March 2023 release, the physical version was pushed back to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025 before ultimately being canceled. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were impacted by these repeated postponements.

While Meridiem Games offered limited details regarding the specific localization issues, the lack of a physical European release is disappointing for fans. This cancellation prevents the official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages, forcing fans to resort to importing US copies to obtain a physical version.

Omori, a critically acclaimed RPG, follows Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic experience. The game seamlessly blends reality with Sunny's dream world, where he adopts the persona of Omori. Initially released on PC in December 2020, it later launched on Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated incident involving merchandise from the game's creator, OMOCAT.
