New NPC Honors Departed in WoW Patch 11.1

World of Warcraft Patch 11.1: A Tribute to Mats Steen and Undermine's New Content

World of Warcraft's upcoming Patch 11.1 is shaping up to be a significant update, featuring new content in Undermine and a touching tribute to the late Mats Steen. Dataminers have uncovered evidence suggesting the inclusion of Lord Ibelin Redmoore, an NPC directly inspired by Steen's iconic World of Warcraft character. This addition serves as a heartfelt memorial to Steen, the subject of the documentary "The Remarkable Life of Ibelin."

The patch, expected around February 25th, will introduce new adventures within Undermine, the Goblin capital city. However, Lord Ibelin Redmoore stands out as a separate addition, unrelated to the Undermine storyline. The NPC's title, "Private Investigator," reflects Steen's renowned roleplaying career as a detective in Stormwind.

Lord Ibelin Redmoore's In-Game Presence

Steen, through his character Ibelin, was a prominent roleplayer and member of the Starlight guild. His in-game detective persona fostered numerous interactions with other players. While the specifics of Lord Ibelin Redmoore's in-game role remain unclear, speculation suggests appearances in Stormwind taverns or along a route frequently traversed by Steen. His potential appearance on the Public Test Realm (PTR) before the official release could provide an early glimpse.

A Multifaceted Memorial

This isn't the first time World of Warcraft has honored Steen's memory. A replica of his real-life gravesite exists in Elwynn Forest, and a charity bundle featuring the Reven fox pet and backpack supported CureDuchenne. The inclusion of Lord Ibelin Redmoore further demonstrates the profound impact Steen had on the World of Warcraft community. Patch 11.1 promises not only exciting new content but also a poignant tribute to a beloved player.
