During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly its entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be playable on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Excitingly, a select group of games are slated to receive enhanced "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" versions, featuring unique upgrades. These lucky titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game boasts different enhancements tailored to enrich the gaming experience. The first game showcased was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces a new feature called "Jamboree TV". This upgrade includes mouse controls, audio recognition, "more expressive rumble", and innovative gameplay utilizing the new camera accessory.
Following this, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are set to receive enhanced resolution and frame rate, along with HDR support. Additionally, they will benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes, which includes voice guidance to aid in finding Shrines and Koroks, and the ability to share creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR code with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is also getting a significant upgrade with a new, exclusive story called Star-Crossed World, alongside improved graphics and frame rates.
Two new titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also set for enhancements. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will feature mouse control capabilities, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR support, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will enjoy better resolution and frame rates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. Furthermore, for those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

Later in the presentation, Nintendo also revealed that several third-party games will receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. These include Civilization 7, which will support mouse controls, and Street Fighter 6, which will feature Switch 2-exclusive game modes.
Nintendo sparked our curiosity about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week with a brief mention on a webpage. This mention was in a footnote related to the newly-announced Virtual Game Card system, which stated that such games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
