How to Obtain Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar. These creatures spawn randomly in specific map areas, generally avoiding players and nearby robots. They are easily identified on the mini-map by their white icons, unlike the black icons of machines. Farming wildlife is less straightforward than farming machines due to their lower spawn rate; strategic exploration is key.

Moose and boar are exclusively found in the ruined city and forest areas. Their behavior depends on your level relative to theirs; lower-level animals may flee, while higher-level ones may attack aggressively, even at a distance. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making encounters with similarly leveled or higher-level creatures challenging, especially early in the game.
