NieR: Automata - How To Get The Type-40 Sword

NieR: Automata's Type-40 Sword: A Guide to Acquisition

Small swords in NieR: Automata are characterized by their rapid attack speed and compact hitbox. They serve as a versatile mid-tier weapon option against diverse enemy types. While weapon upgrades enhance their longevity, numerous powerful weapons, like the Type-40 sword, are obtainable and upgradable for significant character boosts. However, the Type-40 Sword is easily missed; this guide details its acquisition.

Obtaining the Type-40 Sword

The Type-40 Sword is the reward for completing the side quest, "Find A Present," the culmination of a questline involving Operator 6O. Unlocking this quest requires completing two preceding quests. Here's a step-by-step breakdown, including chapter selection points:

  1. Post-Chapter 5: After defeating Adam and Eve in Chapter 5, you receive a call from Operator 6O. This initiates the "Investigating Communications" quest; complete it immediately as it's missable.

  2. Chapter 6 & 7 Progression: Advance through the main story, completing Chapter 6 (Forest Castle events) and beginning Chapter 7.

  3. "Terminal Repairs": After conversing with Pascal about A2 and exploring the city ruins, Operator 6O contacts you again. Check your inbox at an access point to begin "Terminal Repairs."

  4. "Find A Present": While returning to the Resistance Camp during Chapter 7, a final call from Operator 6O will trigger, mentioning flowers and directing you to another message in your inbox. Interact with this message to begin "Find a Present."

  5. Reward: Completing "Find a Present" delivers the Type-40 Sword to your inbox.

Type-40 Sword Stats and Upgrades

At level 1, the Type-40 Sword boasts a 5-hit light attack combo and a 3-hit heavy attack combo. Upgrading it to level 4 increases the light attack combo to 7 hits and enhances its effectiveness against stunned enemies. Titanium Alloy is required for these upgrades.

Additional "Find A Present" Rewards

Completing "Find A Present" also yields:

  • A130: Bomb
  • Amber x 4
  • 5,000 G
  • 800 EXP
