Nexon Announces The Global Shutdown Of KartRider: Drift

Nexon has announced the global shutdown of KartRider: Drift, the mobile, console, and PC racing game launched in January 2023. This closure affects all global platforms, but notably excludes the Asian (Taiwan and South Korea) servers. While the Asian version will receive updates, Nexon hasn't detailed the changes or the possibility of a future global relaunch.

Asian Servers Remain Operational

The shutdown only impacts the international version. Players in Taiwan and South Korea can continue to enjoy KartRider: Drift, albeit with upcoming modifications. Nexon remains tight-lipped about the specifics of these changes.

Timing of the Global Shutdown

The exact date of the global shutdown remains unannounced. The game is currently still available on the Google Play Store, offering players a window to experience it before its closure later this year.

Reasons Behind the Shutdown

Despite efforts to provide a seamless global experience, KartRider: Drift faced significant challenges. Player feedback highlighted frustration with excessive automation, transforming races into repetitive tasks. Technical issues, including subpar optimization on some Android devices and numerous bugs, further hampered the game's success. These factors led Nexon to reassess their strategy, resulting in the global shutdown and a renewed focus on the PC versions in Korea and Taiwan. The aim is to refine the game's core mechanics and recapture its original vision.
