Author:Kristen Update:Feb 25,2025

Get ready for the next chapter in the Mortal Kombat saga! A first look at Karl Urban as Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2 has been revealed.

Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon unveiled a poster featuring Urban, known for roles in The Boys and Judge Dredd, portraying the iconic Hollywood actor and Mortal Kombat fighter. The poster cleverly mimics a fictional Johnny Cage movie, complete with a dramatic scene featuring flaming motorcycles.

Mortal Kombat 2 serves as a direct sequel to the 2021 reboot, starring Lewis Tan, Hiroyuki Sanada, and Joe Taslim. Joining the cast are several new faces, including Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Damon Herriman as Quan Chi.

While plot details remain under wraps, the sequel draws from the vast lore of the Mortal Kombat video game franchise, offering a wealth of potential storylines. The first film focused on Cole Young's introduction to the Mortal Kombat world and the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero.

Initially planned for a theatrical release, the first Mortal Kombat film premiered on HBO Max due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Mortal Kombat 2 is set for a theatrical debut on October 24, 2025.

Our review of the first film awarded it a 7, praising its "spectacular display of blood, guts, and effects-heavy martial arts battles."
