Get ready for some liquid metal mayhem! NetherRealm Studios has unleashed the first gameplay footage of the T-1000, the highly anticipated DLC guest character for Mortal Kombat 1. This Terminator 2 icon brings his signature blend of shape-shifting brutality and iconic weaponry to the fight. Witness his blade and hook arms in action, reminiscent of Baraka and Kabal, but with a distinctly metallic twist. The footage showcases the T-1000's ability to transform into a liquid metal blob, rising from the ground with a devastating uppercut—a move that echoes Killer Instinct's Glacius. Robert Patrick, the original T-1000 actor, lends his voice and likeness to the character, delivering a chilling performance in a confrontation with Johnny Cage. The gameplay trailer culminates in a spectacular Fatality, a recreation of the thrilling truck chase from Terminator 2, where the T-1000 emerges from the vehicle to unleash a hail of bullets on a hapless Cage.
Adding to the excitement, NetherRealm surprised fans with the announcement of Madam Bo as a new DLC Kameo fighter, arriving alongside the T-1000. This fan-favorite character from the Mortal Kombat 1 story mode—the resourceful restaurant owner who bravely stands against Smoke and his henchmen—will now be playable as a support character. A brief glimpse of her in action is shown during the T-1000 and Johnny Cage pre-fight sequence, and later as an assist.
The T-1000 will be available as early access for Khaos Reigns owners on March 18th, with general release on March 25th. Madam Bo joins the fray on March 18th as a free update for Khaos Reigns owners or as a standalone purchase.
The T-1000 marks the final DLC character for the Khaos Reigns expansion, following the additions of Cyrax, Sektor, Noob Saibot, Ghostface, and Conan the Barbarian. While fan speculation swirls around a potential third Kombat Pack, Warner Bros. Discovery's commitment to the Mortal Kombat franchise remains strong, as CEO David Zaslav recently highlighted the franchise as a key title for the company's future game strategy.
Further fueling anticipation, Mortal Kombat creative director Ed Boon confirmed in September that NetherRealm had already chosen their next project three years prior, promising continued support for Mortal Kombat 1 for a considerable time. While many anticipate a third installment in the Injustice series, neither NetherRealm nor Warner Bros. has officially confirmed this. In a previous interview, Boon cited the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to Unreal Engine 4 as contributing factors to the decision to develop another Mortal Kombat title before returning to Injustice. However, he has explicitly stated that the door remains open for future Injustice games.
